ARTICLE I. DUES
Section 1. Dues for the current membership year shall accompany all applications for membership in the Association.
Section 2. Persons who have forfeited their membership through nonpayment of dues may be reinstated upon payment of dues for the current year.
Section 3. Membership dues shall be as follows: Active - $40.00, Corporate - $50.00, Student - $20.00, Retired - $20.00, Honorary - $0.00.
Section 4. The active district organizations must document and report organizational activities in writing to the board of directors.
ARTICLE II. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Section 1. The board of directors shall fill any vacancies in office until the next election. The partial term shall not affect the appointee’s eligibility to serve.
Section 2. The board of directors shall make policies related to the organization.
Section 3. The board of directors shall assume the responsibilities of the affairs of the organization, except those requiring a vote of the membership.
Section 4. The board of directors shall approve the annual budget to represent the association’s finances from August 1 through July 31.
Section 5. Any member of the board of directors who fails to attend a majority of the annual board meetings shall be replaced by the board of directors, unless extenuating circumstances exist.
ARTICLE III. MEETINGS
Section I. The association as a whole shall meet annually in conjunction with the association conference.
Section 2. The board of directors shall meet at least four times each year, one of which shall be concurrent with the association conference. The board meeting is open to all interested members.
Section 3. A quorum of the association for the transaction of business shall consist of a majority of the active members present at the time of the meeting, provided that notice of the meeting was made in writing at least thirty days prior to the date of the meeting.
ARTICLE IV. PUBLICATIONS
Section 1. The association will distribute an electronic newsletter a minimum of four times a year under the supervision of the board of directors.
Section 2. The electronic newsletter editor will be appointed each year by the president.
ARTICLE V. TRAVEL ALLOWANCE
Section 1. The association budget shall include a stipend for the president to attend either of the annual meetings of the American Library Association or the biennial conference of the American Association of School Librarians. The association budget shall also include a stipend for the vice-president/president-elect to attend one professional conference.
Section 2. The president and past president will represent ASLA twice a year at the AASL Affiliate Assembly at ALA Annnual Conference and ALA Midwinter Conference. Registration, travel, and lodging expenses may be approved by the board of directors.Section 3. Travel funds may be received from the treasurer prior to travel authorized by board of directors. The person traveling shall return all monies not substantiated by receipts.
